My first job (age 16) was being a hostess at a restaurant. I really liked it. Clothing stores are fun too, can't beat the discounts, and we girls are always wanting more clothes. I guess it depends on if you are a people person or not. Whatever you do, don't let a job come before school. Working near full-time at 16 and juggling school...think about it. Are you ready and willing to give up your weekends??? You have your whole life to work. Enjoy being 16 while you can. Finish school and go to college- people never regret getting an education.

I ran the gambit of jobs when i was young. i have been working since i was 14. It will be hard to find a job full time. Many states don't allow students and teens to work that many hours, plus the economy is so bad that even adults are having a hard time getting full time work. I have worked a cash register at the grocery store, it is physical, people are rude, and some of the food is gross. A clothing store would be good. I highly recommend an after school program, i worked at one for 3yrs. I loved it. the kids are funny and smart and they really need you. Plus it is a job without a lot of supervision you are the one in charge, it helps you be more responsible. And working with kids looks great on a resume, after all you must be pretty mature for people to trust you with their children.

I think any job is good for a sixteen year old. It is not the job or how much they make, at 16 you want your child to learn the value of earning a dollar and what it is like to budget. That way as the child get older he or she can know what the real world is like and in order to make you to make your own money and be responsible with it.

I started out working at McDonald's when I was 16, and that's what I recommend. They have the best training system. This job is fun and teaches you how to be a real team player and have a sense of self respect.

A lot of stores are offering benefits to their teenaged staff now. The easiest and most interesting job to work at is probably in a clothing store though-you meet fun people your age that are all in the same boat so there's not much room for awkward conversation.

when you're 16, your options are pretty limited. You're basically stuck in the fast- food business until you turn 18 because some companies that you may want to work for may bond their employees (take out an insurance policy on them), and you have to be 18 for that.

find a job working a register, it looks good for other jobs if you were trusted with money. Maybe a movie theater or coffee shop?
