is it legal for a 30 yearold male have a close relationship (not sexual) with a 16 yearold girl?

I think that there is nothing that a 30 year old would have in common with a 16 year old child. You cant hang out like buddies, and even if there is NOTHING going on, people may mistake him for a pedophile. I just asked my hubby what he thought and he said that the guy wouldnt get a chance to be your friend. He would be beaten before he came near the house. If the guy really thinks he needs to be friends with kids, he shoukld really seek out counseling.
When i was 16, the older guys were only interestedi n having "relations" with girls that age. I had 2 friends who were "friends" with older guys (one was 34 and the other was 40)They started off as "friends" and ended up doing more. They guys kept giving them money to keep them quiet. Needless to say when the parents found out- they guys both ended up in jail!

Its not worth it. I say wait until the child turns 18. Anything before that can land you in jail, even on assumptions.

There are PLENTY of people your own age for a "close relationship" which generally means...not sexual but wanting it to be!

Do her parents know about this? If not...I suggest you STAY AWAY because they could haul you in on "suspicion" of a sexual relationship. And honestly...who in their RIGHT MIND (much less a cop or someone investigating such a situation) would believe that you are "just friends" with a 16 year old girl? Ha!

In some of the 50 states 12yrs of age is considered to be the legal consenting age for relationships sexual or not. If you look closely @ the law.....even in those states a parent can press charges for Statutory Rape. In my opinion as a mother.....I'd have my daughter to closer consider what this man really wants..Does he get thrills off young girls or does he really have an interest in her. At 16 the is a whole world waiting to be discovered, please don't give up on your life for someone who could be your father... If it is not sexual then the only other relationship for a 30/16 would be a fatherly or brotherly type. I wouldn't even consider a "friend" relationship cuz the gap is too large to have anything in common.
