. However, it is a lie, he went around the neighborhood saying that the church kicked him out. He lives in the church and had a 1 month notice to move out. He is illegal in the country, and lied about it. He had about 3 years to get his paper work done. For the church's safety and reputation, they took him off as pastor, and give him a month to move out. Now he is suing the church, for telling him to move and for purjury. He is illegal in the country, but because of the laws in NYC, we think that his lawyer is backing him up. We are not sure of what he his saying around, however, he is a LIAR, and we do not know what to do!
What can we do?

Do you mean "slander," not "perjury?"

Slander is an untrue statement about another communicated to a third party, resulting in damages.

There is slander per se and slander per quad.

Perjury is an untrue statement made under oath, either signed in a written document; or stated before a court reporter in a legal proceding, such as a deposition or trial.

Depending upon what statement was made, and what the damages are, would make it an actionable claim...

You say that he was a pastor? Hard to believe that by the way he is acting. And it sounds like the church body handled the situation not according to scrupture.

I think prayer for guidance would have been the first order of business. Then counseling and consultation. But since the church has already evicted him that is neither here nor there.

Now the church body should seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit in this matter. Ask direction in hiring a lawyer. Get all of your documentation in order for the reason(s) you fired him and let the courts decide. Whatever the courts decide you must accept since the decision has been subjected to a governing body outside of the church. (Which it shouldn't have been in the first place)

Are you positive that he is an illegal citizen, and not just listening to rumor's? There could be another reason he was kicked out of his home and church. Question both sides, and/or wait for judgment till all the fact's are in.

If he brought up charges of perjury he can probably prove it. Maybe not, but it's something to think about.

You can study the law and then see where you think he stands.
If the laws seem to be in his favor, I don't know what you can do.
Have the church get an attorney too. I'm sure you all can throw some cash into the collection plate to pay for a consultation, at least.

It sounds like this is between his lawyer and the church officials; in the meantime, find another church.

If he is truly an illegal, he won't dare sue. He'd give himself away and end up being deported. .

I hope you all have a lawyer, too. He would be the best one to tell you what to do.
