There's a free site called PC Pitstop that will do a bunch of checks, repairs and suggestion on you PC - including a lot of quick fixes for internet speed. Not sure if you can get it on Firefox - I mean you can get there, but they MAY tell you to switch to IE for the checks - but this is a really valuable site.

Your Internet WILL work faster, afterwards, I'll bet.

The other thing you may need to do, and I don't know how to do this for free, is use a registry repair program. I use registry mechanic, but it's. like, $29 - I think it's well worth it - but that's just me. If you've got the dough, I'd try it, too.

Also - make sure you go into your Internet Options in the control panel once in a while and delete all cookies, delete all offline content, and clear history. Let me know how it goes.

Other free stuff that may help would be AdAware (does what it syas), SpyBot Search & Destory (kills spyware) and AVG antivirus software from grisoft.com.

Use CodeStuff Starter to see which programs are running at any given time, and to shut down unnecessary ones. Also lets you control your startup menu.

If you open a program it should have somewhere to "check for updates" its useually in the Tools or Help menu at the top..

If your thinking that your internet needs to be updated, You can check with the service provider's website.

Useually the slowness is due to congestion, or to some spyware, or possibly virus,

First go here,
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Check your internet speed a few times...

If the numbers show slow, its due to congestion, call your provider if your not getting the speed that your paying for..

If the numbers show what there supposed to be Run some spyware detection programs.
Ad-Aware and spybot are highly reccomended..

Here is a helpfull link for getting rid of bad things that show up on your pc. You can skip step one unless you have really bad problems..

Could be spyware on your computer, or just an issue with the signal from your cable provider.

If it's spyware and you don't have a program to check for it, go here:
http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10399602.html?tag=lst-0-1

If that doesn't help, call the tech support at your cable provider as it may be a problem on their end.

to configure your pc to automatically update your windows and security, go to my computer - view system information - within the system properties windows - click the automatic updates tab - click on automatic and what specific time you prefer - click ok.

to boost your internet connection speed, i've used this small application, better than the other so called internet booster, and this also comes for free, though you won't have a double your previous speed, but at least you'll get what you've been paying for your ADSL connection.

SpeedGuide TCP Optimizer, go to: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

just choose the optimal settings for maximum usage then restart your pc and you won't have to do this tweaking over and over again. good luck!

If your internet is slow, you may have a virus or spyware. Fire up your antivirus software, and look for something that says "update". After you are up to date, look for something that says "scan". Scan your systsem and see what it finds.
