I don't understand why the first person reoported u. Yes, i have been there and what works for me is to find a quick way to get away from the person so that i can end the "brainmelting" converstion. Bad thing is she is kind of a close friend 2 me so it will continue 2 happen time and time again. I usually always find a way to disappear from the conversation though.

This is when Adult ADD comes in handy. I had an ex who almost always talked about absolutely nothing, and it was very easy to pay attention to everything else. This is also a good time to do some tasks around the house or other activities that you've been putting off.

My grandfather tells the most boring stories ever! He rambles on and on about the war and how he built his house and how he only drives 60 mph in a 75 mph zone. When I talk to him, I usually think about other things and nod my head once in a while to show him I'm listening.

even worse when the person you're listening to needs constant approval while talking so you have to keep nodding or saying "uh huh" just to keep him/her from saying, "are you listening? did you hear what i said?"
i don't fear the loss of brain cell but i mourn the loss of precious moments of my life that have been wasted listening to some impossibly stupid, self-deluded person.
by the way, i'm a teacher. between students and parents i'm in a lose-lose situation.

I had this friend who loved to make all of her experiences sound like the WORST or the BEST ever, like everything she'd ever done was absolutely unique and fantastic... Meanwhile, she would degrade my own experiences, problems, or joys... Once she made me so angry I just punched the wall between us and grinned... she ran away... fun story really...

That happens to me quite frequently, unfortunately. As a college student, I'm surrounded by those kinds of people.

I have a million examples.
It started with a high school friend that went to college with me.
Normally, it is a person that only talks about themselves and has no interest in what you have to say.
