Well, lets get it this way, the use of P2P (Peer-to-Peer) Applications is legal and illegal at the same time...

If you have an original copy of the Software, Audio, Video you are downloading, then there should be no problem downloading them from the internet through Limewire or any other similar program.

This is part of the license agreement of the program, audio, video issued by the publishers. Normally game vendors ban the copying of the games even if you have an original CD/DVD. They say that if the original is damaged because of a lot of usage, they will be happy to provide you with a replacement at no extra cost!!

Some files are Royalty Free, and so, their exchange over P2P is legal, others are privately owned and sharred online...and there is no problem in either.

Some destributions of Linux are also available as part of the online file sharring as they are FREE.

If you really fear for viruses, then you should really have a good antivirus installed on your PC. There are some out there that have support for all those file sharring programs and also Messengers, such as Yahoo!, MSN, AIM, etc.

The antivirus I recommend is AVAST Antivirus...its FREE for personal use, and comes with a lot of handy features.

All what you have to do it download it, uninstall any other antivirus - as it doesn't work in the presence of any Antivirus, install it, and regsiter for a FREE Serial...

If you just want to download songs, so you really shouldn't be worried about viruses as they come normally in mp3, wav, or rm formats, and these are only audio files.

There is another program that only supports the download of Audio and Video, and so, no virus threat...

Hope this answers your question...

I absolutely love Limewire! I use it for music, and music videos. My computer hasn't gotten a virus from it, my computer scans the files first before downloading them. If the files contains a virus it tells me that there is something wrong with the file and won't download it. I support the artists that I really enjoy and I'm willing to pay $20 a CD for 15 songs. But I just want a song or two from the artist. Plus those artists are already rich enough, time to give to the poor, Like me =)

Yes. Limewire has a great chance of giving you viruses. I am speaking from experience because my sister downloaded stuff from limewire, and then oneday while she was downloading songs and games from it, the computer crashed. It stayed crashed for 2 YEARS! Even the computer technicians couldn't fix it.....

Limewire is legal. Downloading music off limewire is illegal. You also get alot of viruses and crap from limeiwre. Use a diffrent P2P like bearshare, frostwire, or even a torrent. Never heard of AIM giving viruses.

I've had Limewire for a few months now-I think it's set up as a filesharing resource. Basically, I think it operates on the assumption that people have already purchased the CD, video, whatever...you also have to agree when you sign up that you will not participate in illegal sharing. But, if you're not 18 and if you live in your dad's house, you gotta live by dad's rules.

It depends.

Limewire is legal.
BUT, downloading copyrighted music is illegal.

Limewire does not have any viruses.
People get viruses by downloading the files they have found through Limewire.

If you're only using Limewire to download music, I don't think you'll be infected. Don't download any exe files, or anything that is below 1mb.

well if it was illegal, then limewire probably wouldnt be up. someone would have stopped it by now. but my friend's laptop crashed because of limewire. i say just buy a few songs [maybe 100] and then try to find some online on websites available for free download. then i'd check and see if my friends had any of their songs on cd's on anything.
