If you have first configured the Router correctly, you then put the software disk into the computer and install the files and drivers. When instructed you put the Adapter into the PCI slot if using the Pre-N. If using USB then put that in when directed by setup. You can choose to use either the Belkin wireless configuration utility to configure you wireless connection on Windows or the Windows Client Configuration. I use the Windows as it gives me a wider range in repairing dropped connections. Dropped connections do not happen frequently, but I have found when they do I have a higher success rate in correcting them without having to push the reset button on the Router by using the Windows Wireless Configuration.

This setup is not difficult. But don't set your security in the Router or the Adapter until you have established a connection between the Router and the internet, then the Router and the Adapter and have successfully logged onto the Internet with your computer. After establishing a connection then go back into the Routers configuration page and set either WEP or WPA encryption, change the SSID name and place a password on your Router Configuration Page. Don't forget your password or you will have to call tech to reset the Router back to factory specs.

After you set up the Routers security then go and put it into the Adapter as well. Each and every single computer has to have the exact same key or it won't work.

One other item, any wireless network with mixed b,g,n the network will be slowed to the slowest specification. So, if you have a g Router but one computer has a b you're entire network is slowed to the speed of b.

Good luck configuring your network. If you need further assistance consider getting this book: "Absolute Beginner's Guide to Home Networking", by Mark Edward Soper. It is a great book with basically everything you need to understand home networking both wired, wireless and mixed. It also has additional informaion on adding game consoles, entertainment systems, and much more to your network.
