if the terrorists have been building up their Katusha's for so long, could this push by Israel be all the way to Demascus?

Sir Real, get your facts straight. Hezbollah crossed over INTO Israel, kidnapped 2 soldiers, killed 8. Just like Hezbollah attacked our U.S. marine barricks in Lebanon and killed 280 of our men in the 1980's. Israel has kept their promise to the U.N. and have gone out of their way to keep peace....even to the point of removing the Jewish people from their homes in Gaza and the West Bank (how soon you forget, there's that selective memory again!).
To the person that asked this question. Hezbollah has been building underground bunkers and stock piling missiles for 6 years. Israel did not start this war. As another poster said, Israel has shown remarkable restraint.

What kind of wacko militant left-wing propoganda have you been soaking in?

Do you actually mean to say that Israel's grand plan was to bring its enemies in closer to its people just so five years later it could wage an unpopular battle that is only being waged against about 2% of the poplulation that has vowed to push Israel into the sea?

If Israel wanted to, it could have already toppled Lebanon by now, sweeping through Syria, and moving toward making Iran a parking lot. The restraint they are showing in incredible.

It's gotten so bad, news agencies now refuse to call Hezbollah a terrorist organization. The New York Times ran an op-ed piece saying the only acceptable scenario in this conflict is a cease fire where both Israel and Hezbollah can declare victory.

What sort of wacko nonsense is that?

This world deserves whatever it gets.

I think it's funny that the US media and Israel is stating that Hezbollah started this war. It has been reported several times in the last 5 years since Israel left Lebanon that Israel has been crossing the "blue line" conducting illegal operations and terrorism in Southern Lebanon. The two soldiers were CAPTURED in southern Lebanon, not KIDNAPPED in Israel. It is a common occurence that has been going on since 2000. Israeli soldiers captured in Lebanon are exchanged for Lebanese prisoners in Israel. Israel planned for this all to happen and is using it as an excuse to invade another country. It has never forgotten the fact that Hezbollah drove them out of Lebanon.

ADDENDUM: Yes, it's true. Israel removed Jewish settlers from the West Bank and Gaza. Very nice of them...to remove settlers from illegal settlements according to the UN...and paying each $250,000 of US taxpayers money. You're right. Israel is a benevolent country.

Doubtful. I don't really understand your question. Because Hezbollah was building up weapons for 5 years, it must be Israel's plan to attack Demascus? That's doesn't make sense. The UN peacekeeping force was there to ensure that Hezbollah was not armed. As usual they did a bang up job.

I don't have any secret government insider information, so I didn't know that this war was five years in planning. What is your source? Ehud Olmert was just elected and he is trying not to appear weak to surrounding countries. Ariel Sharon was a war hero and already proved himself. I believe that Iran was using Hezbollah to draw attention away from its fishy nuclear program During the G8 summit, or that Syria wants to regain control of Lebanon and want Israel to stir up the countries already fragile government into its previously sectarian state, which would easily be over run. Syria simply used Hezbollah to draw Israel into war.

I don't. -Any more than I believe Hezbollah planned it back then. The reality is; the ONLY plans that ever come to fruition ANYWHERE in the Middle East- is God's. The place is just too volatile & unsettled to make long term plans for. Wars wash forth & back across the landscape on a semi-regular basis- there's no predicting what's going to happen next. That's why most of the tourist attractions have one thing in common; they're ruins of Time, Cultures, and Religions...

Yes Israel planned for this war. Israel has been in a war readiness mode since 1949. They have to be.

The month after Israel was created as a state by the UN in 1949, they were attacked by Arabs. And with every attack upon them since, they have been ready, and they have repelled their enemies.

Same as today. Israel knew this day was coming and has been ready for it for a long time. They just did not know 'when' is was going to happen.

The terrorists started it and I hope Israel doesn't stop until they wipe out Hezbollah and Hamas.
