I have a job offer in Las Cruces, New Mexico and one in Pasadena, California. I have a wife and kids. The offer in New Mexico is in social work and pays $27K while the job offer in California is in insurance and pays $45K. I enjoy the fast-paced life of California, though.

It would take $209,196 in Pasadena to equal $27,000 in Las Cruces. $45 sounds like a mistake, you might want to double check. Only someone living with parents or several young people living together could live on that amount in CA. You may want to compare other areas with the below web page. For what it's worth New Mexico is the fifth largest state and Las Cruces is the second largest city in NM. Good Luck!

I lived in Pasadena most of my life. It's a GREAT city, but $45K will not get you anything but an apartment. California is expensive. Also the schools in Pasadena aren't known to be the best, and you could not afford private school. I love Pasadena but unless you said you were making $145K I would stick with New Mexico. Good Luck

I'm in New Mexico. I personally love it. Its not to cold in the winter or to hot in the summer. The only problem is that in Las Cruces your close to the border. The pay checks are also not what they should be but the cost of living is also less. Cruces is hotter than most areas of New Mexico. California is nice but the cost of living is ridiculous. Pasadena, California is very expensive to live and raise kids unless you are willing to commute. Las Cruces -- very boring place. Insurance company has more future thou.

Good luck, the average home in Pasadena is somewhere around 1.5mm dollars. For quality of life, I would opt for New Mexico.

I would check out the crime rate in both cities..New Mexico would be my choice..sure the pay is less but no crime like California.

My birthplace, Pasadena, CA, it is nice, has a great nightlife, and Huntington Memorial is right within your reach if you need a hospital.
