We now live in Hoi An and the best bars to go to for lots of tourists are Here & Now on Le Loi St, Tam Tam and Cargo Club. For early morning dancing, pool and debauchery ask a motor bike taxi guy to take you to the Full Moon Bar. As for hotels - there aren't many in the old town near the river where most of the tourists mingle about but Hoi An is small. Our favourite budget hotel is the Greenfield on Cua Dai Rd. Its clean, has a nice pool, the breakfast is decent and they have many free internet computers in the lobby. $20/night for a big room including breakfast.

Hoi An is a very small town-so you will not have to walk far to get anywhere. Most likely the bus you are taking there is going to drop you off at a hotel or guesthouse. They get a cut from the guesthouse for doing this. The best bet when you get there is to immediately walk to the farthest hotel on the map. Trust me. I did this and found this awsome hotel. Everyone else on the bus stayed at the crap hotel we got dropped off at. And the ones who looked nearby could not find a place to stay that was clean. I am not sure of the name of my hotel, it but it was the only hotel there that had a pool inside. I am sure that if you buy a lonely planet guide book it will tell you what hotel it is. Everyone who saw my room and hotel was very surprised.

hoi an has a wide range of old and new horels of all prices.. the town is so small you'll be able to walk around it 2-3 times in 1 day... except for the beach area which is about 1/2- 1 hr bike ride away. there are a cpl of nice bars over by the "japanese bridge"[ you'll find it], good resturants all over.. i usually divide my dinner up in 2-3 places ... drinks and appatizers[try "white rose"] at one spot.. and main course someplace else. get a motorbike to take you to "my son".. it's more expensive than a company tour but you'll get to travel the more interesting back rds.
