There's different sets of colors.
Example:
Pink is calming to mentally slow patients and is used in many hospitals for the mentally ill.
Green and bright yellow (BRIGHT) is used in some fancy restaurants to make people eat faster, and leave.
Blue is used for relaxation as well.
Purple is kind of used as a "Hippy" color..., it's really weird.
EDIT
Pale green is also a relaxing color. Sorry, I got off-topic. PALE GREEN!

When you think about blue you think about sadness. I've never been sad and relaxed at the same time.
Yellow is too hyper for me. It looks like a swarm of bees flying around me. I start to wonder if i'll get stung by them.
Red is the color I think of when i think of a sports car. Its speed, always wanting to go somewhere. The opposite of relaxed.
Purple is, well, purple. Not much in the world is purple. It catches your eye, but the mind forget's it after a while.
Orange is too close to red or yellow to be relaxing. Though a sunset does give hues of orange, you've got to remember the violent process that makes it in the sun.
Pink has always looked like cotton candy to me. It's on a stick, wating to be eaten by whoever wants a sugar rush. So it's indirectly hyper.
Brown is dull. It reminds me of the stuff i cleaned up after my dog did his business on the front yard.
Black is bold. You put black on white because it stands out. Relaxation is being content with your suroundings not seeing a huge "LOOK AT ME" sign on the wall.
White is just bland. Boring. Nothing much you can say about it.
Green is the color of plants. Plants never hurry about anything. They just take root and grow at a slow, easy, relaxed pace. That's why green is concidered the most relaxing color.
I hope my answer works for you.

Many, many psychological, physiological (and other "p" words) studies and research have found that green is the most relaxing color for humans. That why, when people are about to go on a TV show (like say Oprah, Tyra, Letterman), they put them in a "green room", which is literally painted green, to help them relax before going on the air. The other colors have effects on us, as well, but it depends on what the colors are used FOR. Green is relaxing in a room, symbolizes freshness in food, but it is also the color of sickness. It's quite interesting, really, when you learn about how colors affect us.

I don't know. And there seems to be some variation of thought there. Blue is relaxing, but in an unfocussed way. Green is relaxing in a refreshing way, and maybe it has to do with the green of nature. Green is also considered good for concentration and focus. It's an interesting study. But it seems to depend on who is writing what they come up with and why.
And then there is the spectrum problem. Is it a particular shade of greed that is most relaxing--blue'green, yellow'geen, etc.
Yellow is so sunshiny I think it just cheers you up and wakes you up, too. White is lovely for awhile, but too much it does the opposite of relax me. It's as if there were an absence of what makes life.

Green like any other color has a range of shades. I refer moss green over kelly green. Green and blue share a very close wavelength and are equally well liked. But no color can have a lasting effect of calm. I am partial to pale yellow. And believe it or not, grey does well as an office color.

I'm not sure green is the most relaxing color. A study was done on colors and it was determined that the color peach causes people to be hungry (paint your dining room this color), when asking for a raise at work, never wear black or red (shows defiance, wear blue), did a test at prisons and the color red made the prisoners irritable and the color light blue made them calm, when going to a business meeting, never wear red or yellow (makes people feel you are unapproachable), wear grey or blue, etc.

Green and Blue are the most relaxing colors as they are in the middle of the color spectrum and therefore cause the least amount of subconscious strain on your eyes. Hence, sitting out in a large green field on a cloudless day is one of the most relaxing things you can do for your mind. As long as you aren't stressed out about anything, that is.

I think that it is close to the color of the ocean. The ocean has a blue-green hue and staring at the ocean is really relaxing.

Pink....because it's been known to calm down the most violent prison inmates once they are placed in a pink painted cell. Although, they revert to their aggressive violent behavior if they're over-exposed to the color pink.
Blue and Green are basically cool colors for the eyes. Personally, I love black.
Peace.
