On the Treasure Hunters NBC message board, there is discussion about "I seek thy reef" being an anagram for "the key is free." The "early symbol" represents the portion of the star-spangled banner laid out for "free," and it's locaiton would be in the National Museum of American History in Washington, DC. This seems to make the most sense.

What do you guys thank about this?

The Native Americans who once lived in the area of Capitol Reef called it the "land of the sleeping rainbows." The description is accurate: the rocks here are brilliantly colored and patterned. But the name actually comes from two geological curiosities located in Waterpocket Fold (a one hundred-mile long fold in the earth's crust). Early settlers thought that the mountains along the fold resembled a coral reef, and that one of the white sandstone formations looks like the Capitol's dome in Washington, DC. Thus the area was named.

Well fro looking at you clues on the note pad it sorta points to the fold " look to water for it is in spiration" "wipe out the color" "Independance for the people" I don't know still debating

So is it Washington DC or is it Waterpocket Fold, Utah?

The question seems to be asking where the symbol for the reef.

Therefore, I would assume it's DC.

But maybe I'm misinterpreting the question.

Amanda G, I'm pretty sure those clues were for during the show. ex. In burning light, the plan is laid refers to the episode where they had to burn the paper. Wipe out the colour refers to when they had to "clean the streets of Paris" by wiping off the color of the map. Match the tune to an early drinking song refers to the episode in the swamp where they had to follow the map with symbols. etc.

EDIT:

ACRONYM... "I seek thy reef" can be changed to "The key is free"

then the question says... "where is the early symbol laid out for free?"

They're talking about the American flag which is laid out is the National Museum of American History for free in Washington DC!

That's what I entered at least.

Keep in mind the following: you've been collecting bits and pieces of a map of Washington DC. Also, the last piece of the puzzle collected in challenge #8 was the...anyone, anyone... Capitol Building. Don't fall for this Utah Capitol Reef BS... Brigham is trying to trick you. We've been working on the theme of U.S. history the whole season; we're not going rock climbing in Utah on the last day. That's my piece, good luck all.

the early symbol is could be the masonic symbol, the compass and the square with a G in the middle, the question is where? The reef is the other part of the solution, but what has it got to do with freemasons?

A reef is also an island. An early symbol that is on an island is the Statue of Liberty.

Just a guess.

Look at the place Laird is in when he talks about betsy roos in the final challenge. It is underwater, near the lincoln memorial. Last week, I was sure it was the national archives where the declaration of independence is, but this reef clue is throwing me off.

my husband and I were thinking it had something to do with the first us flag and where it is now displayed, but we aren't sure where that is

reef can also mean folding or pulling in, like a sail to catch the wind etc.... thats why we thought of the flag

I also came up with the National Archives about 3 weeks ago, and thats the answer I'm sticking with..... but the reef also threw me off......so i'm not so sure now
