Have you installed any codecs lately? That happened to me when I installed a pack of codecs. The codecs pkg was huge, and while skipping to the next, next I gave it control of every file that was originally a quicktime file. To fix it I had to go to the add/remove option in the control panel and choose the codec pkg, then instead of uninstalling it I chose to modify it. This time I looked at the list and removed Quicktime from the list. Now it works... if this isn't your problem I'm sorry. Hope you fix your problem! ♠

Go into your Control Panel (from the Start menu), and select Add or Remove Programs. Find Quicktime and make sure it's uninstalled. Download the setup from quicktime.com, run the file that downloads, and you should be set to go.
