Im not saying that i dont believe in god (I do) but, what if the person who wrote the bibble just lied about the whole thing? I mean, i could make some kind of book about... some god i make up, and in a few hundred years, someone will end up believing it and start rumers.

Im just, saying, what if the bibble is a lie? The person-and/or-thing could have written a lie in every word you read, and be laughing at us right now.

The Bible, the combined old and new testament is a compilation of shorter books written by multiple authors. When combined, they have a (mostly) cohesive message, from the old testament to the new testament. For many years, people suggested, just as you are saying, that the Old Testament had been falsified so that the prophesies "matched up" with the life of Jesus Christ more acurately. The discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls, largely debunked this theory, since they contain a copy of the Old Testament that dates back centuries before the birth of Christ and the text is remarkably close to that we use today with only gramatical differences. While this debunks that idea, it doesn't prove that the resurection of Christ wasn't a hoax, but...

As for the New Testament, I choose to believe that it is largely factual, based on a couple of ideas. First, if the ressurection was a scam, Christ managed to fool his closest apostles pretty well, since 10 of the 11 (Judas excluded, and John who died of old age) were killed for spreading the good news. Not to mention the enormous number of others who have died for this belief since. Is this "proof", no. Evidence? Yes.

Also, I think that the teachings of Christ in the Gospel are not just "pretty good philosophy", but the basic truths of life, outlined clearly and concisely by a character who lived them.

Lastly, Christ is the elegant and unexpected solution. The beautiful illustrated answer to the questions "Why are we here?" and "What does god want me to do/be?" These are the questions we all ask ourselves, and I can't imagine a better answer.

On a different note. Many of the stories in the old testament aren't historical, and the teaching of Judaism and Christianity up until the 16th century was that books like Genesis were fictional stories that explained the nature of creation, not the history. At that time, Scottish (Yes, SCOTTISH) ministers began preaching a concept of "Solo Scriptura", where in they preached that the only thing you needed for salvation was the scriptures AND that everything in the scriptures was factually and historically acurate. This is a popular belief among the earlier formed protestant denominations, because poorly educated ministers lacked the books and materials to study other religious writings, like The Ladder of Divine Ascent, and the sermons of St. John Chrysystom which weakened their ability to debate religion with Catholic missionaries. This teaching allowed them to dismiss other writings and define the playing field in narrower terms that were more to their liking. This is why you don't see a lot of Roman Catholic or Eastern Orthodox priests debating evolution in terms of Biblical creationisms like many of their protestant counterparts.

That has been thought of and asked multitudes of time. I prefer not to use "what if's." I go with what I know now and I believe the bible is the real word of God, if it wasn't then the worst that would have happened was I loved well and treated others kindly. The people who penned Gods word are no longer on this earth, if they were just lying then they no longer exist and can not be laughing. I know in my heart,in my spirit that this beautiful book is truly Gods words for his people that includes us all. I did not just believe it either I tested it and found it holds true time after time. Hope that helps

Thats really cool that your thinking about the obvious! Thats a great question. Here's my explenation. First of all the Bilble isnt written by one person or in one time period. For example Solom, Abraham, John, Daniel, and the prophets are just some of the people who wrote in totaly different times. There are many authors in the Bible. The Bible can not be a lie because each book of the Bible was found in different places. It was put together because all of them talked about God (except some) and now it is called the Bible. All of the books that were found talked about the same God. Thanks for asking. :)

The Bible is the inspired word of God, It is the main way God talks to Christians these days. In the biblical times God would talk audibly to people, not that he hasn't done that in modern times, it's just not very common. The bible has many writers but only one author, God. The bible says that man in his own understanding cannot comprehend the mysteries of God, it is only through being filled with the baptism of the Holy Spirit that they will be able to. You cannot separate the Bible from God because they are one, and Jesus was the Bible made flesh. That basically means he was and is the living truth. There are alot of truth out there in the world today, Confucianism, Buddhism, IChing etc..... But only one that leads to God and that is Jesus Christ his only begotten Son, when you know and receive him into your heart, you will have eternal life and know true peace.

I believe it was inspired by God.It didn't all literally happen. I believe Jesus lived and died the way they said. I also believe he rose up. The stories he used to instruct his deciples were hypothetical situations he used to drive a point home. These stories were called parables. In my opinion, I think about 90% of the people who claim to be athiests or agnostics choose not to believe because they are afraid of Hell. I don't think it is as easy to get into Hell as alot of people think. The Bible says that we have all fallen short of the glory of God. That includes Mother Theresa.Ghandi, Billy Graham. It doesn't matter everybody has sinned. That no one is worthy. You cannot get into Heaven by works (good deeds)it is by Grace that you are saved. That way nobody can brag about all the great things they did to get there. The Bible also says that God knows that we are human and are going to sin because it is are nature. The best we can do is try to treat people the way we want to be treated. That includes Christians, athiests, agnostics, Moslems, Hindus, Hare Krishnas or the strange kid down the street that picks his nose and barks at the moon. Just treat people right. Thats what the whole love your neighbor thing means.
I am a student of the natural sciences. I don't believe in the theory of evolution because I think there is a lack of fossil evidence to support it. The natural system as a whole is too complex to come about by chance.
I don't have much time for organized religion. It has caused too much human suffering. It was invented by fallable humans and they all want their own way. I am not a theologeon, just a sinner that knows the only chance I have at redemption is through the blood of Jesus.

Even if there is no god and even if the people who transcribed the Bible made it all up, I don't believe that the Bible is entirely a lie. It does have several stories in there that are universally applicable to human nature, even if they might not be literally true, word for word. Even if none of the Bible is literally true, it does show truth. It's like movies. We know it's all make-believe. However, something about them resonates with some aspect of our humanity, and it arguably says something "true" about what our culture thinks about.

Our current christian bible was not written by one person, it is a compendium of writings put together in the first century by religious scholars. The writings were selected from several christian works, added to what is known as the "old testament", which is basically the Torah. So, you can say that it has many authors. It is considered to be the word of God, because all these authors were inspired by God.

I find it very difficult to believe that you believe in God, spell His name with a little "g" and then question His word. And that little box that says CHECK SPELLING??? That is there for you to use, especially if you can't spell "Bible" and "rumors", basic elementary school level words.

I don't believe it is possible for you to have faith in God and still be wondering if the Bible is a lie and that God is laughing at you. If He's doing anything right now, I'll guess He's shaking His head at all the people so easily fooled by the devil.

i believe the bible was written by some great minds, however i dont think the whole christian thing is true. i dont think everything in the bible actually happened. i do believe jesus could have lived and was a great man, but not like the bible makes it out. it is a guide to give "stories and morals" to people to show them how they should be and to scare people into not being scoundrels.. and as far as evil goes, it takes a lifetime to recognize evil, it comes in many forms and can hide itself well. you can't learn what evil is from a book...especially when the times have changed from when it was written..

The bible is a translation of events that transpired during the days of Jesus. While some of it might have gotten misconstrued over time.....it is still thought of as Gods holy word and his way to tell us how we should love our lives. I am a believer because my life has been blessed by Jesus.....and there is not another explanation for some of the events I have witnessed. I am a paramedic.....and Ive seen lots of things that cannot be explained except to say that God intervened. God Bless. Please dont doubt God.....doubting man is OK....but not when the word of God is in question.
