There must be somebody of importance who would be affected if we went to alternative source of fuel. The president seems to think that if we stay on the offense by using our milatary we will maintain our great way of living. It is understand that the US milatary can probably be defeated. Everyone in all of the US hating countries know that. They are trying to figure out ways to hurt our economy by disrupting our oil suppy. Chavez know this, and he is trying to get the rest of the world on his side. The Alaska refineries going down, and we are considering going into our oil reserve so the prices don't jump to high. Everyone should probably be concerned When are we going to wake up, and realize that this is not a milatary war.

What do you think. If we really took the steps to convert vehicles and changed our entire fuel industry what do you think that would do to our economy. After you look at how that would be a major inconvenience to every person living in the country, think about all those countries that we're involved with in international trade involving the oil industry. The way I hear it the United States isnt getting the worst of this fuel crisis, maybe we should get the jump on ethanol so that we can get a leg up on a new industry.

Oil companies.

Ten years ago, every American car company was offering a purely electric fuel cell car, that required no gasoline and could recharge from any electrical outlet. While that doesn't eliminate the need for fuel reserves, it does drastically reduce gasoline consumption.

All of those fuel cell vehicles were pulled off the market, forcibly by the major car companies. They were replaced with hybrid models that still use at least two-thirds of the gasoline as normal vehicles. According to internal memos from several of the car companies, this was done at the urging of the oil companies.

Small-scale reliable alternative energy sources are at least a decade away. Large scale alternative fuel sources (such as energy plants) won't help the gasoline crisis, unless many people were using electric fuel cell vehicles.

You do the math.

The oil companies!
There have been alternative fuels invented , but most bought up by the oil co. They have also went behind the governments back and contrived to impose a shortage of fuel to drive up the prices.
As for the rest of your tirade, It rambles and I have no idea what you are trying to say. or how to answer it.

none of the alternate fuels are cheaper than oil. Oil is free. It gets pumped and then processed. We pay 3 per gallon. no fuel yet is cheaper than that to make. Until the alternatives are cheaper there won;t be any. The tech is there, but it isn;t cheap enough yet

Oil companies and every single person that is employed by them. It would effect our economy drastically. Still, I think this price hike is the starting line. Time to wean people away from gas guzzling cars and into hybrids, etc. It's got to happen.

Conversion of all vehicles is difficult- better to add new systems to exisitng highways using electric vehicles fitting under overpasses, see here:
