My cucumbers have sideways driven holes in some of them. What is causing this. Is it a worm of some sort?

What I'm trying to find out is what type of bug or worm this could be, that's getting in my cucumbers.

There are less toxic solutions to insect problems. The majority of insects will be killed by a simple spray of soap diluted with water. You don't need to buy anything; just mix a few drops of ordinary liquid soap into a spray bottle of water. Spray your plants on the upper and lower sides of the leaves, until you see the solution dripping off of the plants. You may need to repeat the treatment in a couple of days. You could also try some horticultural oil spray - a non-petroleum type of oil that suffocates the insects but doesn't leave any poisons that can harm you, your pets, the butterflies and birds, or the beneficial insects like ladybugs and bees. This is usually available at plant nurseries and yard & garden suppliers.
Why not try the natural and organic solutions first? You can always resort to the chemicals if the less toxic approach doesn't work (but it almost always does....)

Sure is! Go to Home Depot and buy some Sevin powder and follow directions. It is safe for vegetables. You can still eat those cucumbers, just cut the parts with the holes out.
