In college, I showed up for a cross country event badly hung over.
I threw up just before the start, and ended up running one of the best races of the season. I guess I was just oblivious to the pain.

That really depends on what you consider well. I once had an excellent race & pace (XC) where I was on a "runner's high" the entire time, which for me was rare b/c I always hit a low around mile 2. Didn't do anything different in meal, stretching or warm up - best result of my short career - finished 5th in a field of 200+. It's been over 10 years now, but I'll never forget that feeling - it was strange and euphoric.

Unexpected, huh? One time a friend and I were hiking in an abandoned 'rose garden'- used to be a tourist attraction with dolphin pools and statuaries- and suddenly, what must have been a rabid possum, chased us out of there, growling and foAMING AT THE MOUTH... We were running for our lives and had to jump a canal to escape. There were wings on my feet that day.

haha yeah. my coach made me run the 800 as well as the usual 400 and i killed myself on the 800, and for some reason, my heat for the 400 only had me and one other guy, so i was like...yeah i'm gonna lose...but somehow with me being dead tired i beat the guy (passed him on the second turn) but it was sad because my time was only like 61....
