Would you believe that Microsoft (and most software manufacturers) go to quite a bit of trouble to make sure you can't find the passwords? In Windows 95 you could look for .pwd files, but I don't think you will see them in XP.

It is not necessary to keep the passwords themselves anywhere in the machine. The password can be irreversably hashed to a 128 bit number, which is then stored. Knowing the number does not get you the password, but knowing the password will get you the number. Unix systems have used such a technique for years.

I think they are stored on the hard drive.
