is it used to get a connection through the router. If yea i could use it to get a connection through my ps2 to get online right.

It is any piece of equipment that provides a wireless connection, such as a wireless router. It "sends" the signal out.

I'm not sure if the PS2 can work with it. You have to have a wireless card or device on the PS2 to receive the signal.
