I am talking about those bold black funny characters that cannot be deleted by conventional means that often show a file size in TB's. Is there a software program that will do it?

I suggest you use Eraser 5.8. Search "Eraser 5.8" on Google, download the freeware eraser then erase the unwanted files and if it refuses you could tell it to erase it after restart thus you erased the unwanted files.

LEGAL WARNING: Anytime you erase a file means it's unrecoverable so be careful when erasing or you may have to reinstall your operating system. I repeat theres no way of recovering files that are erased.

Unless you are stuck in a concole, you should be able to drag them off to the trash bin or select and delete.

Stuff like that is a sign your hard drive needs a good scrubbing (or a replacing).
