I still find it difficult to rationalize a rather stupid behaviour like getting drunk! Perhaps our friends in Alcoholics Anonymous can explain and answer the question in their usual spiritual manner. They seem to be into spirits and extraterrestrial matters!

Getting high seems to be an innate compulsion. Every society except for a handful whose lives focused on survival (the Inuit, the headhunters of the South Seas, etc.) have used some substance to alter consciousness. Little kids will twirl around until they fall.

Maybe the Martians coming would mean we'd have to turn all our attention to survival and quit or maybe they'll bring NEW drugs!

Just because something is stupid doesn't mean it's morally wrong. Not everything has to have a good reason behind it...and besides, as long as you have alcohol in moderation, don't drink and drive/endanger others, I really don't see what the big deal is....you can tell the martian that it is a way of social interaction that has been going on since the BEGINNING OF TIME.
