I smoke (please be kind, I have tried many times to quit and am about to embark on a new stab at it(. Since I smoke, my clothes often stink -- especially sweater that are not washed with every wear. I put a cup of white vinegar in my wash water. I know that sounds like it would make your clothes stink, but it doesn't. I follow up with a liquid fabric softner. When I used the fabric softener without the vinegar, the smoke smell lingered.

Rain

O-zone machine for industrial setting. In your case, cloth line outside in sunny day will do. O-zone in the air will took odor our of your cloths. it's a lot faster to find dry cleaner specialize fire/water damaged garments. Mostly they will have small room with ozone machine set up.

AMMONIA

it dosen't fade colors, it dosen't bleach them out, leaves no spots & its pretty cheap

read the directions on the bottle and it tells you how much to use in a wash load.....it'll kill any odor, make sure you add it when the machine is full of water!

Launder clothes with your regular detergent and add a scoop of Oxyclean powder and Lestoil (a cleaner and degreaser). Launder and dry as usual, and your clothing should be smoke-free. Have a good night!!!

I use Arm and Hammer in most of my laundry to freshen it. You can buy big boxes of it either with the detergent or with the carpet powders that you are supposed to vacuum up (I even coat my carpet and let it sit for a while before vacuuming).
