Why does it seem that you get them when you dont want them?!?!?!

I got mine when I was 13. Even though I was on vacation from school (I was at my grandparents' house), I had no pads or tampons, so of course, it had to show up when I was unprepared. One time, my period showed up unexpectedly while I was at school. Luckily, the nurse had some pads, so I was set.

My daughter got hers last fall, she was 10. She isn't totally comfortable with it yet, but is getting better. Heck- I still hate to get mine and I'm almost 30- it seems like if I plan to go on vacation or have a pool party- that' s when I'll get my period.
