You can purchase an inexpensive compass in the camping section of Walmart and Kmart and other department stores. If you are using it in a general sense and not depending on it to get you out of completely unknown territory, one of these will be fine. If you are going to be using it in a situation where you need a lot of accuracy, you may want to invest a bit more in one from LL Bean or Eastern Mountain Sports. Money does not come into the equation of safety. Good luck and have a good night!!

What's the purpose? To point North or to navigate? A simple compass can be found at Wal-Mart, any hardware store or even an auto parts store. You'll be able to find a compass for as low as $5,
but if you're looking to navigate, I wouldn't spend less than $40...and you can get one of those at Wal-Mart sporting goods as well.

Buy a six pack of Cracker Jacks, you're bound to get a free compass in there somewhere.

any place that sells sporting, hunting, fishing, camping, hiking stuff. less than $20 Canadian will buy one with all the features you would likely ever use. or you can spend over a hundred on one with features you will never use. I suggest Silva or Brunton pocket models, they give good value for the money, make sure you get the instruction sheet and understand it.
