Metallica hands down. As much as I dig Guns N' Roses, Metallica has produced more albums, created better music and are great entertainers all around.

trick question. metallica the early years or now? seems to me that master of puppets gets more airplay than any guns and roses song ever written. and people whom were not metallica fans in the early years became fans when they heard " one " so i would have to say metallica.

Metallica- they have stood the test of time and GNR didn't. I love both bands to be honest but if I had to choose it would be Metallica.

Metallica. Their first music wasn't a sell-out and was cool. Plus, Metallica's songs were more original. Guns-n-Roses' popularity was purely a result of marketing/cashing in on the phase of the times (and a couple of remakes of songs) whereas Metallica's sell was purely their music.
Also, where is guns-n-roses now anyway? metallica is still around!!!! (Even though they are a sell out now - they still withstood the times and shifts away from metal)

Guns, definately. Only because I really dislike metallica and at least gnr has a few good songs.

Guns n' Roses: they had more individuality in their sound than the Italian crunch guitar sound of Metallica.
Also: I haven't forgiven Lars (Metallica) for kicking off that Napster crap years ago. I wonder how much $$$$$ in RIAA kickback he got for starting that fight????
