According to the washing instructions on a few shirts I bought, it stated that before wearing these clothes for the first time they recommanded that should be washed. I realize some clolthes need to be washed to allow for shrinkage. Is there some reason why this company (Pemans) recommanded that the shirts (made from 100% cotton) I bought be washed separately before wearing?

Medical journals state that new clothes are recommended to be washed prior to being worn to prevent absorption of chemicals and dyes into the skin, preventing a possible allergic reaction...and a sort of disclaimer for the Company incase something happens they are not liable.

The first and primary reason for washing clothes first prior to wearing them is, as has been stated, the sanitary issue. If unfortunate individual, with some kind of rash, wore a shirt that you tried on...well, like I said...you have to take sanitation into consideration.

Also, clothes that have been washed fit better, which you already know. As to why that particular company recommends you wash the shirts is probably because it'll remove any chemicals and other substances (perhaps from other humans) will be washed off.

I wash my clothes for a better fit and because I like 'clean' clothes. Not to mention, fresh laundry smells great!

well..it's better to wash before you wear..because other people have tried on that shirt/pants/etc..before you..and you don't no where they've been.
