I would use two pads one in the front and one in the back (kind of overlapping eachother). You can also set your alarm so that you wake up to change periodically throughout the night.

Yeah, not too fun to wake up to a messy bed! When I was much younger and just got my period, I wore pads. I found those to be the messiest things ever, especially while you're asleep! I totally support the dark towel over your sheets. As well as sleeping on your side. I find that tampons work a lot better, and if you change it right before you go to bed, that should be good. If you feel you need extra protection, use a pad as well. Also, this hasn't got anything to do with your bed, but I find it easier to wear black, or dark blue underwear during my period as well! Some of the other ladies were reccomending some brands, I won't try and list some, cause I don't use them. So I'll leave that to those knowledgable ones! :)

Put a dark towel down on your sheets, use Tampax Supers or Overnights, and an Always overnight pad. It also helps to wear a pair of pajama pants that is rather tight, so it holds the pad in place. Go to bed as late as you can stand, and change all your stuff right before you go to bed. Make sure you don't oversleep, and schedule to sleep for around 7 hours. If you need to go back to bed in the morning, that's your best bet for cleanliness. I've been there.

You should be laying on your side. The best thing to use is the Always Overnights with the wings. THose work very very well. You may prefer tampons, but really, I highly recommend using those pads at night. :0)

I use long pads or I stick to pads together, and I always sleep with a dark towel over my sheets

As a young woman, you should ALWAYZ practice cleanliness!!!
ESPECIALLY during that time!! You should buy "Over Nites" by Tampax! They're for 'sleepy time' they're extra long and they don't leak UNLESS you have some type of disorder... then, you should seek a doctor!!!
