Periods can start at any age. Some girls get it at 11, some at 15. When starting out use pads. They make them thin so they won't feel too uncomfortable, but it takes time getting used to them. But don't worry. No one else can see them unless you use a thick pad and wear tight thin pants. Use the overnights during the day if your period is heavy. When using tampons for the first time, try the junior or slim ones. They'll be easier to insert. Be sure to change them often. And don't be surprised if you need both a tampon and a pad. Write back when the time comes if you have any questions.

It can be as early as 9 or 10, or as late as 14 or 15.

You might be surprised how easily your Dad would deal with this. Men do know about those things; after all, he lived with your Mom at some point in time, I imagine.

Talk to him about it, and ask him to help you buy some mini-pads and maxi-pads. These have tear-off strips, so they stick to the inside of your underpants.

If you feel cramps that almost feel like you might have to go to the bathroom, only you don't... that can be the first sign that it will start. You could wear mini-pads just in case. Then, when the full bleeding begins, wear maxi-pads. Take some along with you, in case you need to put fresh ones on during the day.

You will start when your body is ready. I was 12, but my mother was 9. It's different for every girl. You might want to talk to an aunt or female teacher if you have questions you dad can't answer. You dad might know more than you think, ask him if you feel comfortable doing so. My dad was very knowledgeable and I could always go to him and my mom.

A pad at first, tampons later when you are more comfortable with your cycle. Ask your dad to take you to a gynocologist. Girls will experience their periods at different ages but if you do not get your period by the time you are 18, go see the gyno.

I am sure you can go to the school nurse and talk to her. Or a guidance counselor. If you feel uncomfortable talking to dad

Tell your dad to buy some maxi pads and LIGHT tampons, make sure they aren't heavy, they will be too hard for you to insert. This way when it does happen you are ready and in stock. If you buy both you can test to see which one is more comfortable.

I would say buy the book by American Girl called The care and keeping of you. You may feel you are too old for it but it does have some good pointers, or see if your library has it.

Back to your school nurse, she is prepared for "accidents" in school. She has probably delt with hundreds of girls with their first menstral cycles.

it is different for every girl. some girls get it when they are 8 some when they are 16. again, the type of pads or tampons you use should depend on you , try out different companies and different sizes to see which you are comfortable with the most. if you just begin your periods it is probably best to use pads. my close circle of friends love the Always brand, but you may prefer others.

I was 11.

Start out using pads... and when you feel like trying something new, switch to tampons (you'll like them a lot more than pads once you're used to them). Just be careful with tampons... Read the little pamphlet that comes with every box of them; it warns you about TSS (toxic shock syndrome). And, because of TSS, use a pad to sleep in.

I started my period when I was very young - I was in the middle of 4th grade, making me 9 or 10. Different girls get them at different ages. One of my friends didn't get hers until she was 16!

When you do get your period, use a maxi pad. I find that the "Always" brand works the best.

Best of luck. :)
