Most surveys show that Republicans serve more in the war than democrates. It is because this was is supported by Republicans. Sure, people like Bush dont serve, because they are too old. Maybe the ones in office haven't served, but that does not mean all republicans don't serve.
It is a bit hipocritical that you call them cowards, when you, at least, based on the impression you gave, don't support the war. Most people don't go to war, does that makethem a coward. You need to get rid of your double standerd.

I agree with what you are saying, but I think you are being too narrow when you just say Republicans. This administration is just one good example of one fact of life. That is, the majority of those who serve do so because they are recruited or because the military seems like the best option for them. The majority of politicians have been dealt a different hand in life, and most of them have been able to avoid serving through college, work etc... I know there are exceptions and I am one of them. I am working on a doctorate, and I will be serving afterwards. Just be careful when you only criticize Republicans, this is a systemic problem in my opinion.

A veteran, as I am, and a republican, and you should be ashamed of yourself. Not for showing your cowardis but for showing your stupidity. You can't remember back to Dan Rathers lies about George Bush's service in Alabama and trying to throw the 2004 election?
Pretty clear to me the commander in chief has served his country. Difference between he and so many democrats is that he doesn't lie about what his military service was about. No fake medals, no long list of purple hearts, nothing for the Swift Boat Veterans to set the record straight on. Don't you just love the way those vets stood up to a Presidential candidate and made him out to be the liar he is?
My dear, the chicken hawks were in office in the 1990's. When we bombed aspirin factories, turned our backs on soldiers in Mogodishu, decimated the CIA and military, etc. all while playing little sex games in the oval office.
Call W what you want, but a coward he is not.

My opinion is that the problem in this case is not REPS vs. DEMS, but RICH vs. POOR.
I'd really like to know how many of the soldiers currently serving in the middle east earned more than 50'000.- a year before going to war (except Pat Tillman, a real man).
And, yes, Dick Cheney&Karl Rove&Dubya had better things to do, which is the case with a lot of other politicians, too. But what I can't stand is the smearing of real veterans by these, like you said, chickenhawks.

Now THAT is without a doubt, the most stupid question I have read on here. Where is your empirical evidence showing that Republicans do not serve? Further, your question is confusing, do you mean ALL Republicans? Or the ones in the Bush Administration? I suggest you look at everyone's bio before you make such a stupid statement.
Did you also forget about William Jefferson Clinton? Who was protesting and smoking weed when his generation was off fighting in Vietnam?

My 26 year old son is in Iraq right now. He is a Marine, and he is a republican. I also have a nephew who is 27, Marine, Spec Ops, Republican.
I cannot speak for the Bush administration, but I know of alot of young republicans that are over seas right now serving their country. Are you considering them in your statement about republicans being "all about war"? They are not there because they "want" to be. They are there for all of us here back at home. Freedom and democracy do not come cheap!
I am also a republican, but I don't like war. I am not "all about war", but after the 9/11 attacks I can see the need for us to defend ourselves and not just turn over and let other countries come over here and bomb us or smash planes into our buildings whenever they see fit. That was a despicable and cowardly act, and the people who perpetrated it need to understand that there are consequences for attacking the USA.
I am proud of my son and my nephew. I grieve for all of the young men and women that have died in service to our country. I support the troops whenever and however I can, whether I agree with the war or not isn't the issue. The ones that are doing the job need and deserve our support.

Here's one:
Donald Rumsfeld served in the U.S. Navy.
And some more:
Colin Powell - General, U.S. Army - served as Sec. of State until 2005
John McCain - much decorated Vietnam veteran
And regarding Macdyver's list on the next page, of Famous Democrats vs Famous Republicans military records -- it's a little too easy to make a selective list of Democrats who served and compare it with a selective list of Republicans who didn't serve, leaving out the Dems who didn't serve and Reps who did. And this off a Left Wing website that tries to make a point with biased factoids! Typical liberal propaganda.

IT is nothing new for the rich and talented to dodge the draft. Clinton, very bright, went to oxford. instead of Army. Bush choose the national guard to escape the Army draft. Of course Colin Powell is no longer serving the Bush administration, he was a career military man. you have a right to be proud of your service, but there are those that feel the military is a good place for anyone that can't stand on their own two feet. Lets be quietly proud and not fight amongst ourselves, passions can run high. PEACE!!!!

I'm a veteran too and I'm not offended. Who did you want to serve? George W was too old for Dessert Storm. Are the girls supposed to enlist? Can you image the logistical nightmare that would create? We do have a volunteer force if you recall. Let's use our noggin here.

Getting answers is what this place is for. So here it is.... The vast majority of service men and women vote republican. To find this out you need but look at the absentee ballots from the service. You could also go further and check the returns of votes in military towns. But then that would mean you would have to apply yourself instead of just sitting around complaining.
