I had it done, when they remove the ingrown toenail they use a chemical to burn the nail bed, then the nail isn't supposed to grow back. I have heard some peoples grow back. I had 3 "sides" of 2 different toes done and they have never grown back. It shouldn't hurt they numb your toe. I'm glad I did it. The down side is it makes your toenail look skinny-er.

Don't let a general physician do it. Had it done there and he just ripped off the nail and it grew back ingrown. Then went to podiatrist and got it done right. It did not hurt other than the first 3 or so shots in the toe. I sat in bed for the rest of the day and I was back on my feet the next day. The acid just eats the end of where the nail grows and the nail grows back normally except it is a little smaller. I wear open shoes all the time and no one has noticed it and it has been great ever since.

I had that done to my Left big toe a few years back. It is not ingrown any longer. It grows back differently than it did before, but it doesn't get ingrown. its worth doing, no big deal
