Which Sims 2 Expansion set is the best?

Question

I currently own just the original Sims 2 and I want to buy an expansion set, but I don't know which one to get that is currently out, but you can count the upcoming Pets one too.

Please give reasons.

The 2 I am kind of aiming for currently are

University, because:
*The College world
*the new 'young adult' stage
*Sims can play guitar and drums and can form a band

and Nightlife, because:
*definately the cars
*The new view of your neighborhood from your house

Those are the things I like the best, but I am sure the other expansions are good too, so just continue to tell me your favorite and why. THANKS!

I would say open for business because it lets you be very creative. its fun being able to be your own boss and decide what kind of store you want. you no longer have to rush them out of the house and wait for your sim to come back wondering what in the world are they doing? its never boring! you can even create hotels, nightclubs, icecream shop, super market or anything else. i my self love the thought of hiring whoever i want and selling this that i love like making a fancy bakery. at website that can really help you customize your game is: http://www.modthesims2.com/index.php without this site i would not have the amazing clothes, cars, businesses or even houses for my sims to be in. so i believe that OFB is the expansion pack you should get you can also squeeze in nightlife (get it cheap on ebay saves lots of money!!) and pets if you want any in your game...i hear that there may be werewolfs in the pets expansion pack :D

Personally, I think each expansion is great. Each one is an improvement on the previous. There are so many features and objects that are available with each expansion. The only ones you can sort of "live" without are the stuff packs, they have nice things but aren't really "needed" for a full gaming experience. Sims 2, University, Nightlife, and Open for Business. Open for Business is really great. You can do so many things you could never do before, hire Sims, build up a business, sell just about anything you can think of, learn new skills and tons of new interactions. University is great because it gives your Sim that young adult stage and you can spend that time building relationships while going to school, when your Sim graduates they get a leg up on their careers when they return to their regular neighborhood and you job hunt, jobs that relate to your Sim's chosen major they start out higher up in their career sometimes only one or two promotions away from the highest career level. Nightlife is great because it gives you a ton of new characters, objects and you get the new downtown neighborhood, new date interactions. If you really have to choose I'd say you could skip nightlife but you miss out on the whole vampire options. I have gotten each expansion (and I admit even the stuff packs) so I can't tell you for sure if you lose any of the interactions you'd get if you skip Nightlife (like "ask out on date" or the "matchmaker gypsy" options), and I don't know if the objects that are available in Nightlife would also be available in the future expansions if you don't already have nightlife. (Dance Sphere, DJ booth, disco lights) Sheesh, the more I look at this the more I wonder if I'm any help to you at all, but I'll give it a go. My recommendation: Get each expansion, in order of release (you can find this out from the Sims website) play each expansion for a while before purchasing the next one, this has an added bonus of the expansions either eventually coming out in a deluxe multi expansion release or becoming cheaper by themselves. At time of writing, I don't have OFB (nor Pets, of course, it isn't out yet) but I have Uni and NL EPs

For me, picking a 'best' is hard because like each brick that makes up a foundation for strong building with more rooms and usefulness, each EP has different additions to contribute to the base game. Each EP provides animations exclusive to some of the new items - like the pool table and cow plant (uni), or will give more powerful options to gameplay (uni grads can lock more wants until they are accomplished - normal sims can only lock one at a time). The Uni mp3 player and cell phone go a long way to keeping sims happy, the expresso machine provides a way for sims to never sleep and be on the go all the time (and make money on the side). In NL different new items like cars and more social interactions make significant changes to game play.

Uni has a different kind of game play than the base game because it is a challenge with a limited allotment of time for sims, but the advantage is a lot of power is given to the sim that is a college graduate.

If you can only get one EP in the next round, I'd recommend NL since it doesn't change a lot in the base game and gives more life options that more people can relate to (pleasure, relationships, cars). But over all, it's best to have all the EPs because each one provides animations and meshes that can fit a type of game play you prefer.

Executive Producer, Rod Humble writes: (in part) "...we really like to push in a new direction for one expansion pack and then give players what they're asking for with another expansion pack.
"The spring one is usually where we try and do something new creatively or try a new life experience. And then in the fall [expansion] we give everybody what they're asking for. So last year was Nightlife and this year is definitely Pets. And we had a lot of fun with it. "

OFB is my favorite but i really think Nightlife is very good to have because of the cars and the downtown shops and everything that come with the game so i guess its rather hard to choose thats why i have them all lol

Well, I have almost all of them, there's University, Night Life, and my newest one Open for Business. I think they're all great but I'd definitely have to say that Night Life is the best. I mean, come on, you get cars, garages, many new items, and your Sims can turn into vampires if they become friends with one.

I would have to say University because it lets you make better money with your career and you don't have to go through the promotion process, and because it lets you have more wants.....plus all the reason you said.
