Okay, here's what I've done:

1. I can't access the volume controls, so don't bother saying that.
2. I right clicked on My Computer, clicked "manage", and then went to device manager.. there is a little yellow ! on a sound area, but I can't fix it, because it says I need to install something, but I don't have the disc to do so.
3. I typed in "dxdiag" into "Run..." and it says there are no drivers.
4. I've tried system restore but it says there's an error and it can't do it.
5. The speakers ARE in working order.. and I've even tried headphones - no dice.

So.. that's basically everything I've done and that I can think of doing. If you know of ANYTHING that can help restore my sound, then thank you soo much. I will totally give out 10 points to the best answer.

You need to reinstall your sound "driver".

Get out the disks that came along with your comp when you bought it and load the sound driver. It's not that hard.

You can do this several ways but if you've been using the computer for a while and havent updated anything or reinstalled anything, chances are pretty high that you'll just have to reload Windows again. This is because Windows is like an octopus eating it's own legs. The longer you use it, the more of it's system that it will eat. Long story short it's meant to do a partial meltdown if you use your computer often and load your comp with tons of software. I'd say a heavy user would probably have to reinstall it ever other year. It happens to me since I run a lot of programs and eventually Windows becomes way too unstable and registry starts to fail like an old tin car.

That being said, just pop in the disk with the driver, and it's pretty much self explanatory from there. The disk should take you through.

If worse comes to worse and your comp is really messed up, boot it up and go to the bios (I think it was f8, f11, or f12, you press the key when you first boot it up so that it won't go to windows but to the bios) from there, CD BOOT the comp and start reinstalling windows. Yes you will lose all of your data unless you do a parital recovery (which usually doesn't work too well) so make a back up of your data files.

There should be a manual on reinstalling windows that came along with the computer. Make sure to read that carefully and install the drivers in the order that they tell you. Also this process will take about 2 to 4 hours depending on how fast your rig is.

You need new drivers, that's why you have the yellow exclamation point. If you don't have the disk, you can look up your sound card type (which you've neglected to include here) and see if there are any available drivers. You could start looking with google. Windows might be able to have some generic sound drivers that will work. If it does, they'll be on your windows CD.

Go back into device manager and look for the sound media with the little yellow (!) and un-install it once you do that then Re-boot the computer. Once the computer boots back up. You will see the computer looking for new device or hardware. This will Re-install the driver for the sound card.. WORKS ALL THE TIME!!

wow!!! quite a struggle. All you need to do is check up the name of the sound card or device you have( the name of you speakers and their code- it would have some code) and then connect to the internet and download the latest drivers. if you dont have a soud card and have an integrated sound on your motherboard then you ought to reload your motherboard drivers from its cd or from the manufaturers site. That should be easy, use google.
This should have your system working in no time.

If you don't have the drivers for you sound card (windows has the most common ones), you might be able to get the driver from the maker of the sound card. If the sound card is built into your motherboard, you might get the sound driver off that disk/their website. If everything else is done, sound cards can cost less than $20.

First, placed a couple of headphones in and spot in the event that they paintings. If they do not then it's the pc settings. If they do paintings then it's your speaker. Best factor to do is to reinstall the sound driving force. Look up your pc at the emachines internet website online. Find the sound driving force on your laptop and down load it. Then unzip or simply click on on it to put in. May need to reboot laptop while you're performed. I had this occur on my laptop. The sound simply stopped operating suddenly and I needed to reinstall the driving force. The solution to study approximately desktops is to check out. I get mad while humans may not supply me the time I have to study learn how to repair whatever. A lot of it's trial and mistake and also you simply need to preserve attempting till whatever works. Good Luck!

Start<
Control panel<
Mine says sound speech and audio devices click that<
Mine says: Adjust the system volume!
IT MIGHT BE muted....?
Since you said you cant access your volume controls this might not help, but control panel is always there for me so IDK.

Go to start, all programs, accessires, entertainment.
Sound recorder, edit , audio properties.
I hope your listening to music soon! :)

Sounds (SORRY) like you need to find the drivers for your sound card and reload them click that yellow ! and see what drivers you are using and try letting window search for them or you are going to have to find them for your specific computer and sound card !
good luck.
