I have been "toying" with the idea of coming out at work. I work in a "very" rough / tough contractor world, for the most part "gays" are NOT accepted very well in this environment. Not to mention I work off of commision sales, I'm "assuming" that it "could" afffect my wallet if things don't go very well. I wouldn't even consider it but I have the utmost respect for my coworkers and I'm tired of having to "cover my tracks", "tell white lies" about the "real" me...Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I wouldn't lie about yourself, but I also wouldn't announce a 'coming out' of any sort about your personal life to your professional peers.

You should be able to remain honest and keep your integrity without divulging the info by having to officially come out. I've never officially divulged any of my religious, sexual, political orientation, but certain people I've built relationships with I have discussed what I've done over the weekend, etc.

Be honest, but don't make a big deal out of your sexual orientation and no one else will either.

very tough question...if you are good a your job, it shouldn't matter; but unfortunately it can...i guess you have to look at it this way...can it jeopardize your work if you do? will it jeopardize your relationship with your co-workers if they find out a different way? and then the big question....how do you feel having to hide a part of you almost as if you are ashamed of it? whatever you decide, do it for you, not anyone else. people should be able to see that this has been you all along, so it doesn't change anything from here on out.

GOOD LUCK!

Let your coworkers figure it out on their own, then see how they react.
