Don't know without knowing what kind of car and how many miles. If it's a Dodge, most likely it's in Limp-in mode. Have you checked the fluid level? May be low. Could be the filter clogged. Good luck. Sorry that I can't give more info without knowing more about the problem.

does it have a reverse? I had a wagon Pulled by horses, and it had no reverse at all. I drove a tank in the army it had a reverse but, heck we just run things over anyway, I wonder................................ What kind of vehicle is IT!
Maybe it has no reverse!
Come on guys, Is it a manual trans or automatic! either one could have this problem!

if your car is equipped with an on board computer ,have it checked before pulling the tranney.There could be a code stored in there that would save you some cash.

ON MOST HYDROLIC TRANSMISSION THIS IS THE FIRST GEAR TO GO, I WOULD BE LOOKING FOR A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND DON;'T PARK BEHIND SOMEONE AND REMEMBER IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE AS TIME GOES ON GOOD LUCK
