I don't know where these people got their mechanical education from but it is almost imposable to have a cracked flywheel from normal use. Their almost 2 inches thick steel in places. They probably mean a flex plate that is on automatic transmissions only.

I would check the toque converter bolts they could be backing out and causing the problem.

Another possibility could be your universal joints as well, have them checked

After all the obvious has been eleminated you might want to check your crankshaft sensor which can cause kickback if faulty, also you might have a weakened harmonic balancer or dampener that is producing the noise thus traveling through the crank to the flex plate (Flywheel) where then the sound is ampified so to say. Might even be such a thing as thrust bearings trying to lay down check to see if you have any excessive crankshaft play by pushing and pulling the crankshaft pulley or the dampener itself.

It sounds such as think ofyou've got 'flooded' the ignition gadget with coolant. Wires getting moist, coilpack and or ignition module were given shorted.verify engine oil for coolant an infection. If discovered, head gasket/s blown. If no an infection, start up by ability of replacing the radiator because it truly is 'cracked'' and likewise the thermostat. The thermostat could were the reason from the start.Get the ignition module examined.maximum vehicle Zone shops will do this for loose.replace all sparkplug wires as they could have soaked up ani-freeze into them.once the vehicle is operating again, verify for leaks at hoses, water pump and heater center.

Could be the starter loose, broken flex plate (automatic), or just a bend spacer plate. Not enough info....standard or automatic. Look your starter over to see if it's loose....check your motor mounts. Good luck. Chevy 350turbo actually had an anti-clunk spring in the tranny. So hope that helps.

this could be a couple of things your starter may be lose not likely though the most likeky will be the fly wheel lose or bent this is very common on jeeps if it is lose you can fix it without dropping the tranny if it is bent you need to replace it because it will cause your starter to go out as well if it is lose it could vibrate enough to break your crank then you are talking money for a new engine

Automatic or manual trans?

If auto, I would say torque converter bolts or flywheel bolts may be loose. Or, the flywheel may be cracked.

Manual trans, could be loose bolts on the clutch or flywheel. Bad release bearing may do it too.

Flywheel bolts are loose, either to the crank or to the torque converter

My first guess: I would remove your starter and check your flywheel for a crack.
