How does Richard become Dick? Also how does William become Bill?

William= Will= Bill
Richard= Dick because that could be there middle name or someone thinks they are one.

I have no idea, but my dad is Richard and when he worked they called him Dick. I hated that. And my husbands name is William, we have all kinds of sales people trying to call him Bill..... My father in law is also William, they call him Wig....figure that one out!

I don't really know the answer to your question, but if my name was Richard I'd ask to be called Rich and not Dick.

The same way Robert is BOB!!!Wish I could answer that one.That is a really good question I should have my dad call uncle Richard and ask him.Hmm you know I wonder if I called him Dick? Hey he can't get mad at me that's is his nickname right?lol
