It is a gamble. Many companies pay dividends on the stock as a way of thanking the investors. Some stocks are worth investing in because they perform consistently and are always in demand.

by buying stocks investors are buying a share of the company so if the company is making money and has a strong position in the stock market, then he/she will make money, but if in investor buys crappy stocks like Enron he/she will loose so much money!! so you don't win anything, it just makes you richer or poorer or it does nothing for you
