Norfolk, VA is a great place. Cost of living is very reasonable.
There are several naval bases in the area.
Norfolk Operational Base
Norfolk Naval Air Station
Little Creek Amphibian Base
Oceana NAS
Across the bridge to the north is Yorktown Naval Weapons Station.
If you can deal with the cost of living, San Diego is a wonderful city.
