because they are actually very comfortable. they don't show a panty line or get bunched up in your pants.

I thought about this the other day. Not necessarily "why" they wear them but "when" they really started wearing them. And although they have been around for a while, I realized that the Thong Song by Sisqo really had an effect on it. Before that, they were just another type of underwear. But then Sisqo had to come and sing about them and make them look like they were the ****. I mean, if it were called the "string bikini song" would string bikinis be a hit??
So now women wear them because they feel that they just arent hot enough if they dont and boys will not give them attention.

okay here comes your nastiest answer...I have a skin condition that causes boils and cyst that form everywhere...one of the sorest spots is in the crook of your leg next to the privates..and to relieve pressure from the elastic...I'll wear a thong rather than go bare.

I agree not V.P.L. visible pant line. They are more comfortable. Women come in all shapes and sizes, unfortunately regular under wear is made for women with a Barbie size butt!

To avoid panty lines in our clothing.
