Remember that bill to drill in Alaska, Anwar?
Thank your local Democrats for not voting for it. We could be getting 4 million barrels of oil a day from there.

That's a very naive explanation. That's not the reason gas has gone up. It's directly related to the war in Iraq. There's not even a question about that.
Do some research and you'll find that the Oil Companies pay Republican politicians millions of dollars. Since all politicians are corrupt (Republican or Democrat) and only care about their own pocket book....it would be wise to assume that if the Oil Companies paid the Democrats more money they would've voted for it as well.
Regardless...oil is up because of Iraq...and you have Neocons to thank for pushing it, and Democrats and Republicans to thank for supporting it.
Everyone should take all their passionate hatred that they direct towards Democrats and Republicans and put it to more constructive use by directing it towards politicians - regardless of their party.
In response to your additional information:
Oh, yes, I know. See I did some research (which is what I suggested you do) and here is what I found (since you didn't feel the need to do it - I'll share with you):
In 1996 Bill Clinton received $153,250. Bob Dole received $649,315, and Phil Gramm (R) received $626,815.
In 2000 George Bush received $1,930,701. The rest of the top 5 recipients were all Republicans, and out of those 5, the top recipient got $276,675.
In 2004 George Bush was given $2,627,825. Of the top 5 recipients only one was a Dem - John Kerry - and he received $305,610.

Pretty narrow minded of you to think that Democrats were the only ones responsible for that. If they were, why isn't the now majority Republican government writing and passing a bill to drill?? That's a two-party street you're walking on. It just happened to be a majority Democratic govt. when it came to light.
And to you - I think the gas prices began going up when we invaded Iraq for what?? Weapons of Mass Destruction? Terrorists? Because someone wanted a war to boost his poll ratings? How fast would we go through that oil? It wouldn't aleviate our dependence on foreign oil, and until we do, we will continue to pay the price at the pump. So don't go blaming others. EVERYONE has a shake in the price of gas.

There is plenty of blame to go around on both sides.
For years, all the wells drilled have been capped, and none of the refineries have been properly maintained or upgraded. It is estimated that it would take about 5 years to bring enough refineries on line to process the oil we have if the started opening the wells we have.
Both political parties have allowed this to happen.

I think they just downed it to be disagreeable with the right rather than whats actually best for the majority of the country. Also, they probably figured that we wouldve had the transition to ethanol by now without a major disturbance in the economy.

Thanks for reminding us. Isn't it funny how the Dems are actually trying to blame the high gas prices on Bush's policies?
