Shock and Awe, Fear and Smear
These are the values we hold dear.

And effective, too.

And they ARE trying to eliminate Social Security, kid's lunches, and medicine from the old. To pay for Shock and Awe, Fear and Smear.

So, you would rather be lulled into a false sense of safety and security at the hands of the Democrats who are more concerned with beating up on the current administration than preventing future attaches on USA soil?

Umm. Okay, I get it. So, are you the uneducated, because so far you do a good job of sounding that way.

I think everybody is tired of the Republicans' fearmongering tactics. The voice of the people will be heard in the next election. Time for a change. Enough is enough. Bring in the Democrats.

Both sides play to their base to win.

But to imply that only stupid people vote contrary to your opinion only displays your own ignorance.

I am certain that with a little research, you could find and issue or two that the Republicans answer better for you than the Democrats do.

Perhaps not enough to change your party allegiance, but enough to make you realize that you are all Americans and in this together. Save the myopic hatred for the loser Middle East countries hell bent on killing each other.

Smart people switch parties to get the best deal. Or even compromise. (Gasp!)

Of course, the smartest ones vote for the politician they own....

The only uneducated people scared by Republicans are liberals like you. The rest of us know that they're just telling the truth.

What scares me is that they are a party of selfish sissies who weaseled out of fighting in Vietnam, a war they were in favor of. They are pro-military just for show and think of foreign policy only as a way to make easy money in deals like Dubai Ports, sweatshops, and Halliburton contracts.

I am.

The tactic of scaring voters is indeed used by both sides but the issues they use are what distinguishes them from the Democrats... Gay Marriage? Flag Burning? Red 'Terror Alerts' around election time? The Terry Schiavo debacle? These are legitimate issues for thinking people? They aren't just intended to scare people or push their buttons? I don't think so.

Here's one--Democrats aren't fiscally responsible. They'll spend our country into the poorhouse! That one gets me. Patently ridiculous considering this congress and administration's record. No budget bill ever gets rejected and no Republican pork or rider is ever struck--and that's before we pay for the war. A 3.5 trillion dollar deficit is created from inherited budget surpluses--while making tax cuts--and financed by T-bills which are being bought up by China. That's fiscal responsibility? Borrow and spend is what I call it. And regardless of what Dick Cheney thinks deficits do matter--at least when they're 3.5 trillion dollar deficits. The current generation of Republicans have lost any right to claim to be the party of fiscal responsibility. That just leaves them with all their hot-button social issues and foreign policy--and they can have those.

Democrats say that Republicans want to eliminate or cut back social programs--which is indeed scary to most folks--but which also couldn't be more true. How about the reductions and 'reclassifications' they've done with VA benefits? How can they do that when they're so quick to commit young men and women to fight? How do you scrimp on people who carry disabilities for all of us for the rest of their lives? Let them eat cake, is that it?

Democrats say that Republicans' tax and economic policies benefit the wealthy. That might be playing on fear or the 'class warfare' that well-off Republicans seem so concerned about--but I don't think too many poor folks benefited greatly from those tax cuts on dividends and capital gains, used any offshore tax havens or outsourced their own jobs for that matter. They probably didn't have good tax attorneys though... And nobody can tell me that Republicans haven't sabotaged the ability of our government to provide assistance to our most vulnerable citizens through their fiscal recklessness. Some people say that the Republicans are attempting to shrink government by bankrupting it. I don't know if that's their intent but either way the effect of their policies is the same.

The biggest bugaboo though is defense. Democrats are soft on defense. You'll be praying to Mecca for your new Islamic Terrorist masters if the Democrats have their way!

I would really like to know where this one is derived from. Though nobody argues with the action we took in Afghanistan against the Taliban and al qaida the whole concept of using huge conventional armies to chase stateless terrorists--who are more like international criminals than a wartime enemy--is pretty absurd... We need to increase counter-terrorism, law enforcement, domestic security measures and create good international relations and cooperation to combat terrorism. That's the way Democrats want to go. We could have bought a whole lot of that with $300,000,000,000. That's 300 BILLION--and counting. We don't need to go declaring pre-emptive war on countries to fight terrorists--especially against countries that didn't have any until we showed up. We need to use security agencies for security and save our conventional war capability for fighting conventional wars... that's what they're there for.

Then there's immigration. It's true that we need secure borders and an enforced policy but that's not where Republican publicity machine is coming from on the issue and I think anyone who's honest can admit that. The great thing is that they've been so successful in playing that fear card that their base is too far to the right on the issue now to be pleased by any policy that the GOP could actually put in place--so now they've dropped it. Too bad that border security is also tied to it... that means that's been dropped too.

I'm sure we'll see all these fear tactics marched out again but I honestly don't think they will stick. They've just used them too much already and they aren't going to hide the elephant in the room this time.

I'm ready to move forward and work with other people for our common benefit. I'd love to see some old school Conservatives show up to take back their party from the NeoCons and the Rapture Right... then they could actually get me interested in voting for them. But the current leadership has to change. It just isn't working and they've had all three branches of government AND restructured some of the most influential executive bureaucracies via the creation of Homeland Defense. That means they've had the whole enchilada all to themselves and made a royal mess of it. Enough is enough. It's time to see past the fear tactics and let somebody else drive.

You mean like the Democrats telling the old folks the Republicans are going to take away all their benefits?

Why are you blaming Republicans for Democrat tactics ? Remember seniors will lose their social security, or seniors will have to eat dog food because of social security cuts, or the children will starve to death because of school lunch program cuts, on and on and on ! These were ALL DEMOCRAT SCARE TACTICS !! You are an idiot !!
