I caught a saleman at the dealership I work at stealing a customer gas cap (chromed). He said he had traded the car off a week ago, but failed to remove the cap before the trade. I forced him to return the cap and ejected him from the shop. I reported the event to my Parts and Service Director and was told "to leave this alone and not be so vindicive".. I am so angry no one wants to do anything about this. Is this petty of me? Should I leave this alone? or go to human services? I am really suprized my Boss would tolerate a thief, what should I do?

I'm guessing that you mean Human Resources (the people responsible for hiring at the dealership) rather than Human Services? That doesn't sound like a place that can help you with this kind of problem. I see only two options, and neither are very promising. The first is that you can go over the boss's head and speak to his boss or the dealership owner (I presume your boss is not the owner too), but you will end up with your word against his word and probably go away very unsatisfied with the results. Or you can seek employment at a different dealership that has personnel and policy more to your own liking.
