It never fails, when I shave my down-there area I get razor burn. I have tried everything that anyone has ever told me to do. Hot water, Bikini Zone cream and gel, alcohol(yeah that was the worst advice I got!), shaving with the hair growth(for those of us with thick, coarse hair this doesnt give a very smooth result), new razors with 1, 2, 3, and even 4 blades, every kind of shaving cream they sell at Walmart or Target. Nothing has worked. My husband wants it bare, but I cant stand the rash that develops the next day after I shave. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok here are some other things that I have already tried that I forgot to mention: have my husband shave it( still got razor burn), soaked in a warm tub and a hot tub, used a hot rag layed on the area, used tons of shaving cream and gel, but I have never tried the coochy cream, that may be a good idea.

I know this sounds totally ridiculous, but there is a product called "coochie cream". I am not kidding! It works wonders!
You can buy it in any sex shop, on ebay, or google it.
I promise it works!

As for your husband, I am hoping that he too is bare if he expects you to be. If you don't like the rash/burn, try waxing. It hurts like hell the first time, but you get used to it. It also lasts longer than shaving minimizing the ouch factor!

a. Delay shaving: And we are not suggesting you shave after reaching the office! Only don’t stand before the mirror, razor in hand, the moment you get out of your bed in the morning. This is because bodily fluids puff up the skin, making it difficult for the razor to reach the hair base. This may prompt you to apply more pressure for a closer shave, but what you get in the bargain is razor burn.

b. Soften up: If you have peeled potatoes, you’d know how difficult it’s to peel raw ones, but boil them and the chore becomes a breeze! Now, you needn’t boil your skin to soften it, but you can certainly “soak in a nice hot tub for at least 10 minutes or place a hot wet washcloth or towel over the pubic or other area to soften the hairs” (4).

After this, lubricate the skin by cream or gel, which can be used by both men and women. When applying, “really work the shaving cream into your skin for at least two minutes, and save areas that tend to develop bumps for the last, when you're shaving, so that the shaving cream gets more time to soften the hair” (3).

c. Learn the technique: And it differs from one body part to another. While facial area requires short strokes, legs require long, even strokes from ankle to hip or till wherever you want to remain hair free. Don’t press down and “don’t go over the same area twice” (3). Also be careful on bony areas, the underarms and the bikini area. Remember to shave in the direction of the hair growth.

d. Take care of nicks: Whatever precautions you may take, nicks and cuts are inevitable while shaving. For this, use a styptic pencil, which is actually aluminium sulfate stick. “ A styptic pencil or block can be used to stop bleeding from razor cuts. This inexpensive product is available at any drugstore” (1). Moisten its tip and dab it on a cut to make it stop bleeding immediately.

e. Try hydrocortisone cream: It reduces embarrassing redness if applied immediately to the shaved area. However, don’t use it more than twice a week. If overused, the skin could become redder and more inflamed the moment you stop its use. In any case, don’t forget to ask your physician first, before trying cortisone in any form.

The best razor burn remedy is not to let it happen in the first place! This can only happen if you take preventive measures and know how to get rid of razor burn. However, if you do get afflicted, don’t panic as the condition generally heals on its own. But, if it doesn’t in a few days or it seems infected, see your physician immediately.
