Well, could that be an evolutionary trait that we have a built in impulse to be afraid since we have been destroyed and pillaged all throughout the ages, imagine tens of thousands of years destroyers have come in and killed all the villages, killed everyone, it's even in the bible! now we have a left over 'look over our shoulder' thing from our bloody history.
could another left over side effect be common paranoia everyone feels at one time or another?

There are times when I would have seen a report on an intruder on some type of Dateline NBC special or have finished watching a movie that was about home invasion. So, I can understand that fear. Especially when you live alone and you hear voices and sounds and you just wondering if you locked that door securely.

Not sue if I understand your question. Yes I have been scared before when I was 12 I was babysitting and someone tried to break in on us. The next day I was taught how to us a gun by my dad and I do not get as scared anymore and I am all grown up with a child in college.
