Head gasket or cracked head. Water and oil circulate through the head and if a gasket is broken or the head is cracked, water can and will get into the oil or oil in the water and occassionally both.

Windstar 3.8 engines are infamous for head gasket problems. Since coolant operates at a pressure of about 16 pounds of pressure, and oil pressure in the engine usually will run in the 40 psi or higher range, it is entirely possible for oil to push through a pinhole and not have water flow back through it.

If there is oil im the water ONLY, and no water in the oil, then you have a pressurized system pushing oil into your coolant.

This could be a head leak, or block crack, but it is more likely a transmission cooler (in the radiator) broken, or if equipped on your vehicle, an oil cooler. Check your transmission fluid for contamination.

Surely a blown head gasket. It could be possible that there is a problem with the radiator and you are getting transmission fluid in the coolant. Is the engine missing? Are you losing oil? If so, then yes, you probably have a bad head gasket. Best of luck.

oil in the water is from the piston rings you are getting what they call blowby the oil is getting past the rings and the compression is pushing it up into the system or the intake gasket could be blown the head gasket will not let oil into the water take your oil cap off start the car put your hand over the hole if you feel air coming out of it it is your piston rings no air then check intake gasket

You need to get a cooling system pressure test done to see if there is an internal leak, like from a "blown" head gasket. This is a simple and easy test that most shops can do while you wait.

There was a warranty recall years ago for Ford Aerostars for faulty head gaskets, you might want to call your local dealership and have them check your VIN number and see if by chance this vehicle was part of this recall.

since its an automatic, you have transmission cooler lines attached at the side of the radiator. the tranny cooler is integrated and is separate the water tank, however if a hole has formed, or a solder joint has broke, tranny fluid could mix with the radiator water.

Check the underside of the oil filler cap, if it's wet or moist and looks like sludge is in it, that's water mixed with oil and you have a headgasket leak.

Also check your tailpipe. If the exhaust is white and smells sweet, the headgasket is broke.
don't rely to heavily on the dipstick.

what color is the oil in the radiator? if pink or red, that's tranny fluid, if it's brown or black, it COULD be motor oil. It could also be dirty tranny fluid.
Check the tranny fluid dipstick for color and for water droplets as well..

Oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil are the same thing. The only places where they meet in the engine are the head gasket or the intake manifold.
