they blow up their fins and put out their little beards (flaring up) or I call it blowing up - under their chins - hahah it is so cute - not just mad though - they have fun doing this - they feel fiesty and territorial. Mine does it when I shut off all the lights but his cause he can see himself in the tank corners/reflection. They say it is healthy to occasionally show them a mirror so they will do this - keeps that instinct healthy but I think it is cruel to put another fish in with a divider - that is just mean. I love their little beards... they are 2 adorable.

It starts to swim pretty fast and take that mirror out if you have one because it gets confused and you know that Betta's think that their reflection is another fish. Oh yeah and don't ever put 2 male Betta's together or else they'll fight till one is dead but that don't mean that you can't put 2 females together. Don't want your betta's to be dead tomorrow morning.

They flair their fins. For an example hold a mirror in front of the glass so he can see his reflection.
