That depends. Now-A-Days they are only gold plated for cost reasons, thats why components are now priced cheaper. Back in the day, processors & such were made of 24 carat gold & were expensive. When I was working in a computer store years ago, we collected all the old Pentium I chips & the older 386's & 486's and sent them to a melter, and got back a nice brick of gold that we splitted within' eachother. We collected around a thousand chips at that time. That's not the only thing that has gold on them though mind that, the wiring inside the computer components were made of gold too, not just the pins.

There is a lot of gold plating in a computer. Some people go to a lot of trouble to salvage it from computers in the junkyard, some make a living at it.

Gold plated.
you would add 2000 dollars to the cost of a computer it they were solid gold.
And if you have a couple hundred computers you can melt out the gold.
You need a big furnace to melt the gold and collect it. just a torch will just vaporize allot of the gold

They are plated. Don't melt them down. If they were solid gold, you would be spending 20 times for same products as you are paying now.
Think about it.
