I have a V-6 98 camaro, for the past 8 months I seem to have a problem with the idle. During the past few months I have changed the spark plugs, fule filter, cables, air filter, battery, altinator, fule cap and I cleaned all connections, not to mention I sprayed air intake cleaner into the intake itself. Yet I am still having the same problem. The strange thing is it ONLY happens when I first start the car and come to a complete stop. When I do so the alt. gauge drops from 13.5 volts down to 6-7 volts and the car idles rough. However, when my foot is on the break and I accelerate to 2000rpms, the problem goes away until I come to a compleate stop or have parked for more than 3 hours and it start all over again. Any ideas? Could it be the ERG valve? I ruled out the idol control valve as well.

Yep, sounds just like the EGR valve. Pull off the vaccum line going to it, plug the vaccum line with a screw and see if it has fixed your problem. Most likely it will. Good luck.

some cars have a cold start switch on them i dont know if yours does or not but you can call a parts house and ask for a cold start switch and see if that makes a differents. as far as the volt meter dropping it will do that becausethe engine is not running fast enough to charge the battery back up. One other thing you can check for is vacumm leaks get a can of carb cleaner and start the car and spray around manifold and vacuum lines if the engine speeds up there is a leak there. dont listen to the ones that are telling you that the o2 sensor is clogged up if it was the check engine light would be on mech 31 years

I'm getting the impression you need a new alternator. I'm betting it's not pushing out enough electric for the plug to keep the engine running smooth.
