Maybe your settings are set for automatic defragment or disc cleanup and will power on at that time to complete the clean up. I used to have a computer that did the same thing but when I check it was set to go off like every few months or so even though I didn't program it to do that... so check your settings to see what dates or times it's set to do this and then just cancel it.

No, if you had a hacker the last thing that I would think that they would do is a disc cleanup. Check your settings-your computer is probably set up to do a daily cleanup automatically.

I really probably isn't a "hacker". Some ethernet cards support a method to turn a computer on remotely. This is very unlikely.
The Disk Cleanup dialog opens up autmoatically when your C drive use reaches a certain percentage. You maye have left it on accidently.

You might have told it to restart or standyby instead shutting down. But if it was at the Disk Cleanup dialup box, it was probably in the process of doing that and the screensaver was on and you thought it was turned off.
