In Virginia I think we were still hearing a lot about the Governors blue ribbon panel on shark attacks. As you may recall there were a number of well publicized shark attacks that summer, and teh idiot gov decided that the government neede to get involved. He later becae the head of the GOP for awhile, lost his home states executive mansion to Mark Warner (future presidential material, keep an eye on him) and has retired into obscurity, the sharks were very greateful.

There was actually some news in Afghanastan that day... two US woman had been arrested for missionary endeavors over the weekend and were to be executed. Instead, they were set free about a week after 9/11.
ode for it be September 10th again forever.... instead September 12 haunts us. good question
didn't the condit issue come up again a few years later?

Gary Condit and Chandra Levy. In fact, the morning of 9-11, an employee of mine called me in my office and told me about the first plane. My response was "Gary Condit is going to be relieved".
And Ashcroft was working on ending racial profiling. Which the next day he wanted to ramp up.
